Replacing the Notebook Keyboard
Swap your broken or damaged laptop keyboard with the factory original.  Instructions applicable to models NC1501, NC1502, NC1503, NC1510, NC1610, VA2000, VA2001, VA4100, VA4101, VA4103 and VA4300.

Tools Needed: (1) Phillips #0 screwdriver, (1) 3/32 slotted screwdriver
Time Required: 15 minutes
Difficulty Level: Easy - Moderate

For products still covered by the original Everex warranty, costs associated with self installation of a replacement keyboard will not be reimbursed.  Installation of factory authorized parts will not void the original Everex warranty (if any).  Everex assumes no liability for damage associated with improper installation.  If you need assistance, have questions regarding installation or prefer an Everex Authorized Service Center repair your product, contact Everex Technical Support at 866-850-8835.



STEP 1
Turn off your Everex notebook, unplug from its power source and place it upside-down on a clean, stable surface.

CAUTION: USE OF UNAUTHORIZED PARTS MAY CAUSE INCOMPATIBILITY ISSUES OR PERMANENT DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER.  THE EVEREX STANDARD WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER DAMAGE CAUSED BY INSTALLATION OF UNAUTHORIZED PARTS.

 



STEP 2
Remove the battery by first releasing the latch #1.
 



STEP 3
While holding latch #2 in the unlocked position, remove the battery by gently pulling it away from the notebook chassis.
 



STEP 4
With a Phillips #0 screwdriver, remove the 3 screws located under the battery.  Place the screws in a safe location for later use.


 



STEP 5
Turn the unit right-side-up.
 



STEP 6
With the notebook open, place the tip of a 3/32 slotted screwdriver between the top cover plate and right-side of the chassis.

CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH THE INTERNAL COMPONENTS OF YOUR COMPUTER WITHOUT PROPER GROUNDING.  ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE CAN CAUSE PERMANENT DAMAGE.  Learn more about Static Electricity and Grounding.
 



STEP 7
Carefully twist the screwdriver 90 degrees.  A plastic clip will snap as the right-side of the cover plate is released.

CAUTION: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PRY OPEN THE COVER PLATE WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE.
 



STEP 8
Working on the left-side of the notebook, place the tip of a 3/32 slotted screwdriver between the top cover plate and the chassis.
 



STEP 9
Again, carefully twist the screwdriver 90 degrees.  A plastic clip will snap as the left-side of the cover plate is released.

CAUTION: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PRY OPEN THE COVER PLATE WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE.
 



STEP 10
Tilt the display backwards, to a 135 degree angle.




 



STEP 11
Remove the cover plate by gently wiggling from side-to- side, while moving it upward and out.

CAUTION: Use caution while removing the cover plate to prevent damage to the supporting tabs.



 



STEP 12
Grasp the top of the keyboard and slowly tilt it backwards.



 



STEP 13
Place the keyboard upside-down, taking care not to fold or pinch the tail.

 



STEP 14
Using the tip of your fingernail (do not use tools), pull the top-side of the keyboard connector outward.

 



STEP 15
Do not pull the connector open more than 2 - 3 mm.
 



STEP 16
Again using the tip of your fingernail (do not use tools), pull the bottom-side of the keyboard connector outward.

 



STEP 17
Stop when the entire connector is roughly 2 - 3 mm open.

 



STEP 18
Grasp the keyboard tail and slowly remove it from the connector.

CAUTION: DO NOT USE EXCESSIVE FORCE.  If the keyboard tail does not remove easily, the connector may not be fully disengaged.  Recheck steps 14 - 17 before attempting again.  If problems still exist, contact Everex Technical Support at 866.850.8835.
 



STEP 19
The keyboard can now be removed.
 



STEP 20
Place your new keyboard upside-down on your notebook with the tail close to the connector.
 



STEP 21
Grasp the keyboard tail with your finger tips and slowly insert into the connector.
 



STEP 22
With the tail inserted, push the connector shut.
 



STEP 23
Gently pull the tail to ensure proper connection.  If the keyboard tail is misaligned or separates from the connector, repeat steps 21 - 22.

CAUTION: DO NOT USE EXCESSIVE FORCE.  Damage to the keyboard tail may occur and leave it inoperable
 



STEP 24
The keyboard should now be connected and the notebook ready to reassemble.
 



STEP 25
Taking care not to fold or pinch the tail, turn the keyboard right-side-up and align the tabs with the notebook chassis.
 



STEP 26
With the tabs in place, tilt the keyboard downward.
 



STEP 27
The keyboard should rest evenly on the notebook.
 



STEP 28
With the cover plate in hand, align the bottom tabs with the notebook chassis.
 



STEP 29
Using slight pressure, gently push the cover plate on to the chassis until the left and right clips snap into place.
 



STEP 30
Using a Phillips #0 screwdriver, insert and hand tighten the 3 screws located under the battery compartment.

CAUTION: DO NOT USE EXCESSIVE FORCE WHILE TIGHTENING SCREWS. 

 



STEP 31
Attach the battery and lock latch #1
 



STEP 32
Installation of the keyboard is now complete.

 



STEP 33
Your Everex computer is designed to automatically detect new components. Turn on your PC and test thoroughly.

If your keyboard does not function properly, follow the precedures to ensure the keyboard is installed correctly.
